Big blow to SP leader Azam Khan, after the jail sentence, now the legislature is snatched away

SP leader Azam Khan has got a significant setback from the UP Assembly. After being found guilty in the hate speech case and sentenced to three years in jail, his assembly membership from Rampur seat has been cancelled.

New Delhi: The assembly membership of senior Samajwadi Party leader and Rampur MLA Azam Khan has been cancelled. The Speaker of the UP Assembly disqualified him from membership. After this, by-elections will now be held in his assembly seat Rampur. Recently he was sentenced to three years in the hate speech case. Along with this, a fine of six thousand rupees was also imposed on him.


The three-year sentence in hate speech case

After being found guilty in the hate speech case and the sentence was announced, it was believed that there was a crisis in his assembly membership. Although he was given bail by the court along with punishment. But now he has got a big blow from the assembly. Due to the penalty of more than two years, his assembly membership was also abolished. The Speaker's Office gave this information.


According to the order of the court, Azam Khan was sentenced to three years each under section 153A, section 505(1) of the IPC and section 125 of the Representation of the People. Along with this, a fine of two thousand rupees has been imposed. In default of payment of fine, he shall undergo further imprisonment of one month. Azam Khan's first reaction came after getting the sentence. After getting bail from the sessions court, Azam Khan said that we welcome the court's decision. Will file an appeal against the decision. This will be discussed with the lawyers.


What is the matter?

Significantly, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Azam Khan was the candidate of the SP-BSP alliance from the Rampur parliamentary seat. During his election campaign in April 2019, he addressed a public meeting in Khatanagaria village of the Milak Kotwali area. It was alleged that he had given provocative speeches about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the then District Magistrate Anjaneya Kumar Singh. The video of Azam Khan's speech went viral. In this case, the report of the case was lodged at Milak Kotwali on behalf of Anil Kumar Chauhan, in charge of the video observation team.
