BJP will not give ticket to relatives of leaders in UP body elections

New Delhi: The BJP will not give tickets to relatives of ministers, MPs and MLAs in the upcoming local body elections. Its decision was taken in a late-night meeting of the party leadership at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's official residence on Monday. The meeting also discussed the strategy to ensure the victory of a maximum number of seats for the party.


According to a senior minister who attended the meeting, the leadership also took feedback from the ministers and took their valuable suggestions. The BJP leadership had a clear statement that no MP, MLA or minister should advocate for their family members.


In such a situation, this decision of the BJP leadership is a blow to Uttar Pradesh minister Nand Gopal Nandi, whose wife Abhilasha Gupta is the outgoing mayor of Prayagraj. She is preparing for a second term. Similarly, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak wants to field his wife Namrata Pathak for the post of mayor in Lucknow.


It was also decided in the meeting that the ministers in charge of the districts would also be responsible for the organizational work of the party in their jurisdiction. The Chief Minister said that the voters should be informed about the work done by the Modi government and the state government. He said that the ministers in charge should ensure that the BJP wins a maximum number of seats in the local body elections.


Tickets to winnable candidates

State BJP president Bhupendra Chowdhary said that ministers in charge have the additional responsibility of ensuring tickets to winnable candidates. The in charge should also ensure that those who have not got tickets do not become dissatisfied and efforts should be made to encourage them to work for the victory of the party.


Ministers were directed that they have the responsibility to look after not only the districts they are in charge of but also their parent districts. He said that everyone should ensure that the party wins all the 762 urban local bodies including 17 municipal corporations.
