BRICS: Modi's mantra at the 14th summit, our mutual cooperation will overcome the impact of Covid

While addressing the 14th summit of BRICS countries through a digital medium, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that our mutual cooperation can make a useful contribution in recovering from the loss of Covid-19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the opening ceremony of the World Business Forum at the ongoing 14th BRICS Summit in Beijing, China. Modi said that the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) have very similar views about the global economy, so mutual cooperation among all can make a useful contribution in recovering from the loss of Covid-19. PM was addressing the 14th summit of BRICS countries through a digital medium. He said that the outbreak of the pandemic has reduced globally than before, but many of its side effects are still visible in the global economy. We BRICS member countries have had a very similar view of the global economy and therefore our mutual cooperation can make a useful contribution to the 'post covid recovery'.


The lives of our citizens are getting direct benefit from mutual cooperation.

Modi said that in the last few years, there have been several institutional reforms in BRICS which have increased the effectiveness of this organization. He expressed happiness that the membership of "New Development Bank" has also increased. He said that there are many areas where our mutual cooperation is directly benefiting the lives of our citizens. In this episode, the Prime Minister mentioned steps like the establishment of a research and development centre on vaccines, coordination between customs departments, arrangement of common 'satellite consultation' and traditional regularization of pharma products.

BRICS focus on work

On the working policy of BRICS, Modi said that such practical steps make BRICS a unique international organization whose focus is not limited to dialogue only. We have also strengthened our people-to-people contacts by increasing contacts between the BRICS Youth Conference, BRICS sports and our civil society organizations and think tanks. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that today's discussion will bring forth many suggestions to further strengthen the ties between the BRICS countries. China is chairing the BRICS summit this year. Chinese President Xi Jinping presided over the summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin also attended the conference. The theme of the summit is "Promoting High-Quality BRICS Partnership, Beginning a New Era for Global Development".
