SDMC has taken action with bulldozers in Tughlakabad and Sangam Vihar on Wednesday and removed illegal encroachments.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday launched an anti-encroachment drive. SDMC has taken action with bulldozers in Tughlakabad and Sangam Vihar today and removed illegal encroachments. This action of SDMC is part of a ten-day action plan to remove illegal constructions in areas under its jurisdiction, including Shaheen Bagh.

After the action taken in the Sangam Vihar area of Delhi, local people say that we were not told anything before that when all this would happen. We have lost everything.

SDMC has the complete plan ready

SDMC President, Central Zone, Rajpal Singh said that bulldozers are being used in the operation and the operation started from Karni Singh Shooting Range on MB Road in Sangam Vihar area and will continue till May 13 in different areas. He said that this campaign will be run in Shaheen Bagh Main Road, Kalindi Kunj, MB Road, Meherchand Market, Srinivas Puri and Khada Colony.

Preparation of bulldozer in Shaheen Bagh too

Singh said, “We have prepared a ten-day action plan to remove encroachments from these areas including Shaheen Bagh. We have also demanded that an adequate number of police personnel be made available to carry out the campaign. We will campaign in Shaheen Bagh on May 9. He said that encroachment will be removed in Kalindi Kunj and Srinivas Puri on May 5 and 6. On May 10, the campaign will be conducted near Gurdwara Road near New Friends Colony. The campaign will be conducted on May 11 at Meherchand Market, Lodhi Colony near Sai Baba Mandir and near JLN Metro Station. Another SDMC official said, “This is our regular plan to remove encroachments. All action will also depend on the availability of the police force.

Shaheen Bagh came into discussions in 2019

It is worth noting that Shaheen Bagh comes under the jurisdiction of SDMC and in December 2019, there was a prolonged sit-in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in this area. This sit-in demonstration ended in March 2020 after the outbreak of the Covid epidemic. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) launched an anti-encroachment drive four days after the communal violence in the Jahangirpuri area, which was widely criticized.
