It is expected that first 12 to 18 year olds and children with weak immunity will be given this vaccine. Apart from this, it will also be decided whether every child needs to be vaccinated or not.
New Delhi: There is good news for crores of parents of the country, who are waiting for their children to get the corona vaccine. The Subject Expert Committee working under the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has recommended Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for use on children aged 2 to 18 years.
DCGI imposed four conditions
Now the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has to take the final decision on applying Corona Vaccine to children. We have come to know that DCGI has imposed four conditions while making this recommendation.
The first condition - the process of trial of the vaccine should be continued continuously.
The Second condition- It should also be added to the information of the vaccine about what will be its effect on the children.
The third condition- data on the safety and side effects of Covaxin should be collected every 15 days after the vaccination of children.
The fourth condition - is that the vaccine manufacturer should tell about the risk management plan. That is, if there are side effects, then what should be done in such a situation. This information will have to be given to the company.
Standard procedure for vaccination is yet to be decided
Now this recommendation will be sent to DCGI for final approval and only after that, this vaccine can be administered to children. However, what would be the standard procedure for administering this vaccine to children? This is yet to be decided. A committee of the Government of India is working on this.
These children are expected to be vaccinated first
It is expected that first 12 to 18 year olds and children with weak immunity will be given this vaccine. Apart from this, it will also be decided whether every child needs to be vaccinated or not. Between the months of May to September, trials of Covaxin have been conducted on children in India. After that its data was submitted to DCGI in October.
Zydus Cadila has got approval
In addition to Covaxin, Zydus Cadila's Vaccine Zaycov-D has also been approved for children between the ages of 12 and 18. This vaccine will be administered in three doses, which will be injected with a Jet Injector instead of a syringe. It causes negligible pain after the injection. We have come to know that talks are going on between the government and the company regarding the price of Zaycov-D. Vaccination of children has started in many other countries of the world like America, Britain and most of the countries of Europe. In the US, children above the age of 12 are being vaccinated by Pfizer, while in the UK and Europe, children under 18 are getting the vaccine from Moderna and Pfizer. That is, if everything goes well, then soon there will be not one but two vaccine options for children in India too.
