On Wednesday, the fourth day of the winter session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, the government passed the 'Haryana Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2021'. According to this bill, now the legal minimum age for buying and drinking alcohol in the state has become 21 years. Earlier in the state, a person below the age of 25 years could neither buy nor sell liquor.


The bill states that the National Capital Territory of Delhi has also recently reduced the age limit to 21 years. Apart from this, the socio-economic conditions of today's era have changed a lot from the time when the above provisions were included in the Excise Act. It states that people are now more educated and can also take rational decisions regarding alcohol abuse in a responsible manner.


Earlier the drinking age was reduced from Delhi

Let us tell you that before Haryana, the Delhi government had reduced the age of drinking and buying liquor. In Delhi also the drinking age was reduced from 25 to 21. The bill states that since the inclusion of the above provisions in the Excise Act, the socio-economic situation has changed significantly.


It has been argued in the bill that people have now become more educated and can take rational decisions about drinking alcohol.
