Incidents of the beheading of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal and stabbing of Amaravati chemist Umesh Kolhe to support the statement of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's suspension against Prophet Mohammad happened as a replacement.
New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) chief met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday and is believed to have been briefed about the progress of the investigation into the murders of two persons in Rajasthan's Udaipur and Maharashtra's Amravati. The officers provided this information. The Home Ministry has entrusted the investigation of both cases to the NIA. NIA Director-General Dinkar Gupta met the Home Minister for about 40 minutes at North Block located in Raisina Hills.
Gupta is understood to have apprised of the progress of the investigation in both cases. The beheading of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal and the stabbing to death of Amravati chemist Umesh Kolhe took place in retaliation for supporting the statement of suspended former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet Mohammad. Five accused have been arrested in connection with Kanhaiya Lal's murder, while four out of seven accused have been taken into custody in connection with the Kolhe murder case.

According to Amravati city police commissioner Dr. Aarti Singh, the 'mastermind' Irfan Khan had allegedly hatched a conspiracy to kill Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe (54), who runs a medical store in Amravati and involved others. Umesh was stabbed to death on the night of June 21 at around 10.30 pm near Ghantaghar in Shyam Chowk area of Amravati.

According to an officer of Amravati City Kotwali police station, Umesh had a drugstore in Amravati city. She had reportedly shared a post in some WhatsApp groups in support of Nupur Sharma. Umesh had mistakenly sent this post to a WhatsApp group which also had members of other communities. According to the official, the main accused Irfan Khan allegedly hatched a conspiracy to kill Umesh and took the help of five people for this. Irfan Khan (32) was arrested by the Crime Branch of Amravati City Police from Nagpur on Saturday evening.
