NIA makes first arrest in NGO terror funding case, case was registered in 2020

The official said that Irfan was a close associate of Mehraj Khurram Parvez and was working with his organization Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS).

Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Irfan Mehraj from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the Terror Funding NGO case. An official gave this information on Tuesday. The arrest comes after an extensive investigation into the case registered in October 2020. The official said that Irfan was a close associate of Mehraj Khurram Parvez and was working with his organization Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS).


The official said that the investigation revealed that JKCCS was funding terrorist activities in the valley and was also involved in propagating a separatist agenda in the valley under the guise of protecting human rights. The probe agency said the involvement of some NGOs, trusts and societies in the Valley in financing terrorist activities is being probed in this case.


Some NGOs, both registered and unregistered, were seen collecting funds in the country and abroad under the guise of donating and various welfare activities including public health, education etc. But some of these outfits have developed links with banned terrorist outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) etc., the official said.
