The youth who posted Nupur Sharma's photo on Instagram received death threats

A businessman running an amusement park in Surat, Gujarat has received death threats for sharing the photo of BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Instagram. Police have arrested 3 accused in the case.

New Delhi: A Gujarat businessman has received death threats after posting a picture of BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Instagram. On Friday, the police arrested three accused in the case. All the three accused are residents of Surat. According to the police, the complainant, who runs a recreational park, had posted Sharma's photo on the park's Instagram page following which he received death threats from seven people.


Case registered in Umra police station

A case has been registered at Umra police station on the complaint of the businessman. Police Inspector J.R. Chaudhary said that 3 people have been arrested in the case and the search for 4 other accused is going on. The arrested persons have been identified as Mohd Ayan Aatshbajiwala, Rashid Bhura and a woman named Aaliya Mohd. All of them are residents of Surat. The three have been booked under IPC sections 504 (outrage with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506, 507 (criminal intimidation).


The young man had immediately removed the post from Instagram

The then BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma had made a controversial statement on Prophet Mohammad last month, which created a ruckus. According to the complainant, the social media marketers of the amusement park had posted Sharma's picture on the park's Instagram account. According to the FIR lodged with the police station, the complainant immediately took down the picture and apologized but the three arrested accused and a few others threatened to kill him on Instagram, asking whether he wanted to stay in Surat or not. .'
