In this way, the tussle going on for a long time regarding the Delhi MCD Mayor election ended. BJP also withdrew the name of its candidate from the post of Deputy Mayor.

The Aam Aadmi Party won a majority in the municipal elections in December last year. After this the election of the Mayor was to be held. But even after a lot of difficulties and uproar, success could not be achieved in the mayoral election. The court also had to intervene in this matter. After all, the mayor's election was to be held on 26 April i.e. today. But before that, Shikha Rai, BJP's mayoral candidate, withdrew her candidature.

After the end of every financial year in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the mayor is elected afresh. In MCD, for the first year the post of mayor is reserved for women, in the second year the post is not reserved for any class. In the third year only a person belonging to the reserved category can contest the election and for the next two years a person of any category can contest the election.
