Many questions have been raised on Tihar Jail after the video surfaced of allegedly getting VIP facilities to Delhi Government Minister Satyendar Jain lodged in Tihar Jail. After this, a committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary (Home) to investigate the matter. This committee has said in its report that CCTV cameras should also be installed inside the offices of jail superintendents and their representatives.
New Delhi. A committee set up to look into allegations of 'special facilities' inside Tihar Jail in Delhi has recommended framing of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and installation of CCTV cameras inside the offices of jail superintendents and their representatives. Officials have given this information on Monday. A committee under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary (Home) was constituted to investigate the matter related to alleged VIP facilities being given to Delhi government minister Satyendar Jain, lodged in Tihar Jail.
Significantly, in a money laundering case registered against Jain by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), he has been in jail for more than six months. Recently several videos of Jain had surfaced in which he was allegedly seen getting special facilities like massage inside the jail. The ED also produced CCTV footage from Jain's jail cell in the court.
The committee has suggested in its report that the Director General (Prisons) should implement a standard operating procedure and use biometric system to eliminate misuse. It was alleged that influential inmates used the jail card to buy various items for themselves inside the jail.
