New Delhi: Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi's attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday said those to whom Amethi showed 'magic' took a dig at the Prime Minister. Participating in the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President's address, he also alleged that the 'family' had taken possession of several lands in Amethi that were allotted for the foundation or factory. He was referring to the Gandhi family.


What did Smriti Irani say?

Smriti Irani said, "Today a gentleman who was shown 'magic' by Amethi and whose deposits were forfeited on 4 assembly seats, took a jibe at the Prime Minister." Alluding to Rahul Gandhi's defeat in the 2019c elections on the Amethi Lok Sabha seat And was on his way to victory. Referring to the allocation for women self-help groups, he said, “between 2009 and 2014, an amount of about Rs 80,000 crore was given to self-help groups. This amount has been increased to Rs 4.93 lakh crore by 2014-2022.


He said, “In 1981, a foundation took 40 acres of land in Amethi. It was said there that we will make a medical college for the people of Amethi. 623 was paid as rent. On that land the family built a guesthouse for themselves. How come the rent for 40 acres of land in Amethi is Rs 623, this is magic.” He claimed that the ‘family’ hospital in Amethi did not treat a person and turned him away because he had an Ayushman Bharat card. Later that person died.


'Money had to be paid for applying for Haj in the Congress government'

Smriti Irani said, “Land was taken for a factory in Amethi. Suddenly this land was given to the foundation. Later the family did not vacate the land. The farmer goes to the court and gets an order to vacate the land. Even today he is sitting on the ground. Today they talk about the poor." He said, "The new Haj policy has come tomorrow. When they (Congress) were in government, money had to be paid for applying for Haj. Modi government has ensured that now no one will have to pay for the application.
