New Delhi: After the end of the delimitation in Delhi, the election bugle can sound anytime now. It is expected that the MCD elections can be held by December. All the parties including Aam Aadmi Party, and BJP have intensified their election preparations. Yesterday, Home Minister Amit Shah has started the work of wooing Delhiites by inaugurating the Waste to Energy Plant in Delhi, while the Aam Aadmi Party is constantly raising questions about the BJP. Let us understand the electoral multiplication math of MCD through this report.

Delhi Municipal Corporation Amendment Bill was passed in March 2022

In March this year, a resolution to merge the three corporations of Delhi was passed in the Lok Sabha, after which the work of delimiting the three corporations was started. Opposing the decision of the Center, the Aam Aadmi Party had said that the BJP wants to unite the three corporations and run a parallel government in Delhi. AAP had also made serious allegations against the Lieutenant Governor regarding this. It is not that for the first time all three corporations are being merged, but before the year 2012, all three corporations were one but the then immediate Shila Dixit government had decided to separate.

What were the results in 2017?

In the year 2017, when separate elections were held for the three corporations, the BJP had a clean sweep 3-0 and the Aam Aadmi Party had to face defeat. Out of 272 wards of the three corporations, elections were held for 270 wards, in which BJP won 181 seats, while the common man got 48 seats, the Congress got 30 and others got 11 seats.

Current political scenario

After the delimitation, all the political parties entered the electoral mode. All parties including Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and Congress do not want to leave any chance this time. While the Aam Aadmi Party is full of enthusiasm after winning the Punjab Assembly elections, the BJP is again waiting for a big victory like in 2017. So the Congress party is also claiming its victory.

What are election issues?

Corruption will be the biggest issue for BJP in this election. BJP will try its best to capitalize on the allegations of a liquor scam alleged against Manish Sisodia in this election. Let us tell you that a few days ago, Manish Sisodia was questioned by the CBI for hours after calling the office. So there the Aam Aadmi Party had raised the issue of corruption in MCD a few months back and alleged misappropriation of money. Overall, corruption can be a big issue in this election along with water, and electricity.

Whose edge is heavy?

The coming MCD elections will see a close fight. It would be redundant to estimate someone's victory, but it is certain that there is going to be a direct contest between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party.
