NDA government will be formed in all three northeastern states: Hemant Biswa Sharma

He said the chief minister for Meghalaya would be decided after considering the number of seats won by the BJP. The BJP has not entered into a pre-poll alliance with any party in the state, though it has an understanding with the NPP.

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma on Tuesday said there will be no hung assembly in Tripura, Nagaland or Meghalaya and asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form government in all the three northeastern states with absolute majority. Sharma, convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), said none of the NDA partners would forge an alliance with the Congress or the Trinamool Congress after the results are declared on Thursday. Addressing a press conference here, he said, “There will be no hung assembly. NDA will form government in all the three states.


Several exit polls have predicted a hung assembly in Tripura and Meghalaya, although according to this, the NDA will be the largest group. The exit polls have predicted NDA returning to power with absolute majority only in Nagaland. Asked about the chief ministerial candidates in the three states, he said status quo would remain in Tripura and Nagaland. This put an end to speculations claiming that a change of leadership could be seen in Tripura. "Tripura will have a BJP chief minister, while we are in a coalition government in Nagaland," Sharma said.


He said the chief minister for Meghalaya would be decided after considering the number of seats won by the BJP. The BJP has not entered into a pre-poll alliance with any party in the state, though it has an understanding with the NPP.


"However, there will be no alliance with either the TMC or the Congress in any state," Sharma said. Currently, Tripura has a BJP chief minister, while the governments in Nagaland and Meghalaya are held by the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the National People's Party, respectively. Party (NPP) is headed by Elections were held in Tripura on 16 February and in Nagaland and Meghalaya on 27 February. The results will be declared on March 2.
