New Delhi: The earth shook due to the earthquake in Manipur. According to the National Center for Seismology, an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale has occurred. Earthquake tremors were felt 79 km west-northwest of Manipur's Bishnupur today. As soon as the earth trembled due to the earthquake, people came out of their houses in panic.

Recently there was an earthquake in Pithoragarh

Recently earthquake tremors were felt in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The intensity of this earthquake was measured at 3.8 on the Richter scale. The earth shook at 8.58 am today, about 23 kilometers away from Pithoragarh. The epicenter of this earthquake was 10 kilometers below the ground. Although there was no loss of life or property in this earthquake. Three days before the Pithoragarh earthquake, the earth shook in Jammu and Kashmir as well.

Earth shook in Uttarkashi as well

Last month in December also, there was an earthquake late night in Uttarkashi and its surrounding areas of Uttarakhand. This earthquake was of low intensity. Uttarkashi Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal had told that the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 3.1. He had told that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of five kilometers from the ground in a forest near Barkot in the district. Patwal said that many people did not feel the tremors due to the low intensity and the earthquake occurring at night when people often sleep.

What is the relation between Richter scale and intensity of earthquake?

  • When an earthquake occurs on the 0 to 1.9 Richter scale, it is known only by seismograph.

  • Mild tremors occur when an earthquake occurs on the 2 to 2.9 Richter scale.

  • When an earthquake on the 3 to 3.9 Richter scale occurs, it is as if a truck passes near you.

  • An earthquake of 4 to 4.9 on the Richter scale can shatter windows. Frames hanging on walls can fall.

  • Furniture can move when an earthquake occurs on the 5 to 5.9 Richter scale.

  • The foundations of buildings can crack when an earthquake occurs on the 6 to 6.9 Richter scale. There may be damage to the upper floors.

  • Buildings collapse when an earthquake occurs on the 7 to 7.9 Richter scale. Pipes burst inside the ground.

  • When earthquakes occur on the 8 to 8.9 Richter scale, large bridges including buildings also collapse.

  • Complete devastation when an earthquake occurs on the Richter scale of 9 and above. If someone is standing in the ground, he will see the earth swaying. Tsunami if the sea is near. In an earthquake, each scale of the Richter scale is 10 times more powerful than the previous scale.
