Delhi is the most polluted city of the year 2022. In this context, people living here can become victims of many serious diseases in the coming years.

New Delhi: Delhi is India's most polluted city in 2022, according to an analysis of Central Pollution Control Board data. Here the pollution level was PM 2.5 and above throughout the year. But, do you understand their meaning in terms of health? Actually, PM 2.5 i.e. particles less than 2.5 micrometres that can penetrate deep into the lungs can cause irritation in the alveolar walls. These can spoil the work of the lungs and mix in the blood can give serious diseases to the body.


Increasing pollution invites deadly disease

Due to increasing air pollution, common man can become the most victims of these deadly particles such as carbon monoxide which acts like poison for lungs and brain. Second nitrogen oxides which mix in the blood and damage the vital organs of your body. Apart from this, things like ozone and sulfur dioxide also harm health.


Disease caused by air pollution

1. Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs can fill with fluid or pus, causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. A variety of organisms can cause pneumonia, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi.


2. Asthma

Asthma is a lung disease that can be triggered by air pollution. Its airways become inflamed and extra mucus starts forming in the lungs. This causes difficulty in breathing.


3. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease-COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that obstructs the flow of air through the lungs. Symptoms include difficulty in breathing, cough, mucus production and wheezing.


4. Lung Infection and Cancer

Lung infection and cancer, both can be caused by the polluted particles of PM 2.5. It can actually cause infection and cancer by causing chronic infection in the lungs.


5. Cardio Vascular Disease

Cardio Vascular Diseases, actually there are 4 types of diseases which can be caused by arteries, high BP and stroke. In this you can have coronary artery disease, stroke and aortic valve disease.


6. Eye diseases

Dryness in the eyes, conjunctivitis and eye allergies – itching, redness, discharge, swelling of the eyelids, and blurred vision are some of the health effects on the eyes due to pollution. These problems start increasing by living in polluted cities for a long time.


7. Chronic inflammation and pain

Pollution particles can seriously harm you. These can cause swelling and pain that can last for a long time. So, the risk of these diseases may increase in Delhi in the coming years.
