Tokyo Olympics:Haryana’s Wrestler Ravi Dahiya won silver medal, second Indian wrestler to do so

Russian wrestler Zavur Uguev defeated Ravi Kumar Dahiya in the final match of the 57 kg category. India's Ravi Dahiya won the silver.


New Delhi: Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya did wonders in the Tokyo Olympics. Ravi from Haryana won the silver medal for the country in the 57 kg wrestling category. Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Russian wrestler Javur Yugaev were face to face in the final match. Ravi definitely lost this match but he got the silver medal.


Ravi Kumar Dahiya won silver

Ugayev took two points in the first period of the final match. But Ravi immediately made a comeback and scored two points. However, Ugayev then took a 4-2 lead with two points.

After this, Ugayev also took a point in the second period. Then Ugayev scored two more points to make the score 7-2. However, Ravi once again made a comeback and reduced the gap by collecting two points. But his efforts were not enough to win the match and he had to accept the silver medal with this defeat.


Defeated Kazakhstan wrestler in semi-finals

In the semi-final match of 57 kg, Ravi defeated Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan. Ravi won the semifinals by defeating Nurislam Sanayev at 7-9. He was behind by 7 points in this round, but he made a great comeback in the end, beating his opponent.


Second wrestler after Sushil to do so

Veteran wrestler Sushil Kumar won the silver medal for India at the 2012 London Olympics. Before Dahiya, Sushil (2008, 2012), Yogeshwar Dutt (2012) and Sakshi Malik (2016) have won medals in wrestling for India. Sushil Kumar won the silver medal in the London Olympics 2012 and also won the bronze medal in Beijing Olympics. Sakshi and Yogeshwar have won bronze medals.
